What actually happens in a natal chart reading

By Angela Rose Yogi · July 2026

A natal chart reading is a one hour conversation about the map of the sky at the exact moment you were born. Together we walk through your planets, houses, and aspects, and what they reveal about your gifts, your patterns, and your path. You bring your birth details and your questions. I bring 15 years of study and a translation.

If you've been curious about a reading but aren't sure what you'd actually be signing up for, this is the whole hour, start to finish.

What happens before we ever meet?

Your reading begins days before we sit down together. Once you book and send your birth details, I cast your chart and spend real time inside it: the placements, the aspects, the patterns that repeat, the themes that keep rising to the surface. By the time we begin, I'm not looking at symbols anymore. I'm looking at you.

That early work is also why I ask you to reschedule rather than cancel if life intervenes. The chart has already been studied, and your booking never expires.

What do I need to bring?

Three things: your birth date, your birth city, and your birth time, as exact as you can find it. The time matters because it sets your rising sign and your houses. It's usually on your birth certificate, or one text to your mom away.

Beyond that, bring whatever has been sitting on your heart or mind lately. Wear something cozy. Have your favorite drink in hand. There's nothing to study and nothing to prepare; the chart does the remembering for both of us.

And if your birth time really can't be found, we can still do a beautiful reading with what we have. Some of my favorite readings have been timeless ones.

What do we talk about for a whole hour?

We start with the foundation. Your natal chart is a snapshot of the sky at the exact moment you were born, and the first landmarks are your big three: the Sun, the core of your personality; the Moon, your inner and emotional nature; and your rising sign, how you meet the world. If you'd like to meet them before we ever speak, my free Cosmic Snapshot will introduce you in about thirty seconds.

From there we go deeper than any app can: the houses your planets live in, the aspects they make to each other, your North and South Nodes, and the larger story those pieces tell together about your purpose, your challenges, and the season you're in right now. I define every term as we go, the same way I would at the studio. What Mercury represents. What a house actually is. Why two people with the same Sun sign can live such different lives.

The hour is a conversation. Interrupt me with questions whenever they arrive; the best readings are the ones where you do.

Do I need to know astrology to get anything out of this?

No. You don't need to know your Moon sign, and you don't need to believe anything in particular either. You bring your lived life; the chart brings its symbolic language; my work is to translate that language so you can reconnect with your own inner guidance. Skeptics are welcome. So are the ones who've read every astrology book since childhood. The chart meets each of you exactly where you are, and so do I.

What happens after the reading?

If we meet on Zoom, you'll receive the recording to keep. If we meet in person, you're welcome to record on your phone. People tell me they return to their recording for years, and that it says something new each time; a chart read at 25 lands differently at 30, even though the map never changed.

For some, the reading is complete in itself. Others want what we found to live in the body, which is what the Personal Astro Nidra is for: a deeply restorative meditation scripted from your chart and recorded just for you. And when the reading has settled and the question becomes "...and now what?", that's what The Cosmic Journey answers: six to twelve weeks later we come back and read the sky as it moves over your chart.

How much does it cost, and where does it happen?

A natal chart reading is $150 for one hour, live and one-on-one. We can meet on Zoom wherever in the world you are, or in person: I'm one of the only astrologers in South Florida you can actually sit across from, and a few in-person spots open each month. When you book, we'll find the right quiet place together.

You were born with a map. I'd love to read it with you.

Quick Answers

Before you book

How long is a natal chart reading?
One hour, live and one-on-one, either on Zoom or in person in South Florida. Zoom sessions are recorded and sent to you afterward, and in-person sessions can be recorded on your phone.
How should I prepare for my first astrology reading?
Find your birth date, birth city, and exact birth time if you can (it's usually on your birth certificate). Beyond that, wear something cozy, have your favorite drink in hand, and come with whatever has been on your heart or mind lately. No astrology knowledge is required.
Can I have a natal chart reading without my birth time?
Yes. An exact time sharpens the chart because it sets your rising sign and houses, so it's worth checking your birth certificate or asking a parent. If it really can't be found, a beautiful reading is still possible with your birth date and city.
How much does a natal chart reading cost?
A one hour natal chart reading is $150, on Zoom or in person in South Florida. A personalized Astro Nidra meditation can be added for $125, and The Cosmic Journey bundle pairs the natal reading with a follow-up transit reading for $250.
